Silvretta Classic: Stage premiere in Appenzell
When bolides of the twenties conquer the Silvretta-Hochalpenstrasse, followed by the luxury cars of the thirties, when legendary sports cars meet everyday cars of the post-war period, then it is time again for the Silvretta Classic Rally Montafon. From July 7 to 9, 2016, 180 old and youngtimers from eight decades will drive through Vorarlberg, Appenzellerland and the western Tyrol, bringing automotive history to life. For the first time in its nineteen-year history, the Silvretta Classic Montafon will take the route through Appenzellerland on Friday, July 8. Harald Koepke, head of organization for rallies at Motor Presse Stuttgart: "The loop around the Säntis and the detour into Appenzell will be one of the route highlights this year." As in previous years, the rolling automobile museum will set off from Partenen on all three days of the rally to cover a total distance of around 560 kilometers. The Appenzell stage, which is just under 300 kilometers long, will take the participants once around the Säntis, which is a good 2,500 meters high, on Friday. The rally will start at 7:31 a.m. from Partenen via St. Anton, Göfis and Schellenberg (Lichtenstein), to Gonten and then to Appenzell, where the first vehicle is expected at around 10:50 a.m.
The rally is not about speed
This year's Silvretta Classic Montafon is also advertised as a regularity and reliability rally. The focus is not on speed, but on precise driving when tackling several special stages and meeting target times. Mercedes Benz, premium partner of the 19th Silvretta Classic Rally Montafon, will be represented by five classic cars from the museum. Brand ambassadors Klaus Ludwig and Karl Wendlinger will also be at the start.
