Porsche: A 944 is this exciting 🎥
LEARNING FROM THE OLD With all the modernity and the many assistants available to me these days, a 95-year-old like me really has no reason to drive an '89 like the Porsche 944. Carlabelle was able to experience how a true classic drives in everyday life with a Porsche 944.
But when someone offers me the chance to experience a Classic Car, I certainly don't say no. Let's get down to business. I approach the bright red sports car with respect, because I don't yet know exactly what to expect.
The engine with 165 hp comes from Audi
Vintage 1989, which is not exactly from yesterday. You unlock the doors manually with the key, where I already notice - central locking is present. The doors open at a wide angle, and you sit very low down in the seat. With a loud clack, the door latches again and then you're off.
Turn the key in the ignition, and there it is: the sound of a Porsche. Porsche teamed up with VW back then, which is why the 944 has an Audi engine. With 165 hp, it's certainly not the most powerful, and the sound of the engine doesn't exactly sound sporty either.
Sports car for everyday use
As a Porsche fan, however, I still get tingles. With the 944, Porsche wanted to produce a sports car that was suitable for everyday use. And they have succeeded in doing just that. Supple steering and clutch, smooth driving feel-but when you want to go around the bend with momentum, the sports car sucks itself to the ground, as you'd expect, and takes you around the bend with gusto.
Difference from the cars of today
For me, it always feels great to drive the old generation of vehicles through modern roads. I can feel every time what the difference is to cars of today. And I can see where the cars we drive now come from.
Nothing shows me the evolution of the automobile better than a classic like this. The Porsche 944, the younger brother of the 924, is and remains a monumental part of Porsche history. It definitely did not disappoint me. And as much as I love our modern cars, I would never want to give up driving the "old ones."
