With the full restoration of a Porsche 911 S Coupé from 1971, it once again won the restoration competition, while last year the Porsche Center Zug took first place. For the second time, the Restoration Challenge, which took place for the fourth time in 2018, had two categories: full restoration and partial restoration. As there was only one participant in the partial restoration category this year, the Porsche Center Zurich-Schlieren took first place without competition with a 911 T Coupé from 1972.
Many parts restored and not replaced
The Porsche Center Geneva had set itself the goal of restoring the Porsche 911 S Coupé - a Swiss vehicle owned by the Porsche Center - to its original 1971 condition as far as possible. Many parts were therefore restored rather than replaced. The team from Geneva carried out a detailed full restoration of the engine, gearbox, body, chassis and interior. The 911 was painted red in the past, but after the restoration it shines again in its original silver metallic color.
Oldest vehicle in the competition from the USA
Second place in the fully restored category went to the Porsche Center Locarno with a 911 Turbo Coupé from 1975, while third place went to the Porsche Center Zug with a Porsche 911 Targa from 1967, also known as a soft-window Targa because of the flexible rear soft-top cover. The later models have a fixed rear window. The oldest vehicle in the competition originally comes from the USA and has undergone a full restoration of the engine, gearbox, body (new underbody), chassis and part of the interior.
