Herbert Müller is one of the most successful Swiss car racing drivers of all time. His achievements include two overall victories at the legendary Targa Florio in Sicily and two second places as well as class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Black day 38 years ago
On May 24, 1981, the popular Aargau native ("Stumpen-Herbie") was killed in an accident at the age of 41 during the 1000-kilometre race on the Nürburgring. As in previous years, the Herbert Müller Memorial Day in the idyllic Swiss mountain region of Gstaad will honor his memory on Whit Sunday (June 9).
Exhibition and racers' meeting at the Forellensee
The event is organized by Müller's son Daniel, owner of the popular excursion destination Forellensee Gstaad-Zweisimmen. The program of the Herbert Müller Memorial Day (from 10 a.m.) includes an exhibition of top-class Porsche racing cars, a MemorialRALLYE, a PorscheMEET and a racing driverMEET. Participants include Müller's legendary racing driver colleagues Gijs van Lennep and David Piper, as well as Fredi Lienhard (from whose autobau Romanshorn some of the cars on display come), former racing mechanics Heini Mader and Edi Wyss, team bosses and fans.
The meeting and party with music, drinks and fish and crayfish specialties from our own lake is open to the public. Pre-registration is not necessary, there is room for everyone.
