The journey through the most beautiful landscapes around the lake begins on Thursday, May 2 at 5 p.m. with a prologue in Friedrichshafen. On Friday (1st stage, Bregenz-Reutte-Bregenz) and Saturday (2nd stage, Bregenz-Ravensburg-Bregenz) the teams will roll a total of 530 kilometers through Vorarlberg, Tyrol, the Allgäu and Upper Swabia.
Prominent pilots steer the legends
This year, Opel's rally legends will be among the participants. Led by the Ascona B 400 - with such a type Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer became rally world champions in 1982 - classics like the Kulläng-Kadett and the Irmscher-Commodore will start.
The cockpits are prominently occupied: Opel brand ambassador and Le Mans winner Jockel Winkelhock will skilfully steer a Kadett C GT/E through the serpentines, actor Florian Bartholomäi will drive a 1983 Corsa A Cup, and Opel head of communications Harald Hamprecht will steer the 190-hp Commodore B GS/E.
Kadett B 1900 Rally oldest vehicle
An Opel racing car from 1903, a Manta A in its version as a long-distance touring car, and a 210-hp Opel Insignia Grand Sport 4×4 will also be on display in front of the Bregenz Festival Hall.
The oldest Opel in the Lake Constance Classic field is the 1971 Kadett B 1900 Rallye, a former company car of Swedish Opel factory driver Anders Kulläng.
The Opel parade at a glance: Kadett B Kulläng (106 hp), built in 1971; Commodore B GS/E (190 hp), built in 1972; Kadett C GT/E (160 hp), built in 1978; Ascona B 400 (240 hp), built in 1981; Corsa A Cup (83 hp), built in 1983, and Kadett E GSi (115 hp), built in 1985.
New R2 vehicle by the 2021 season
Opel is currently supporting young drivers in the ADAC Rally Cup, which is contested with the 140-hp Cup version of the Adam. In addition to attractive prize money, the winner has the tempting prospect of securing an Adam R2 and spare parts package for the following season.
For the 2021 season, Opel will develop a new R2 car based on the upcoming Corsa, which is intended for both the European Championship and international customer racing.
