Opel: It all began in 1899 with the Lutzmann system

VIRTUAL TIME TRAVEL Opel is celebrating the company's 160th birthday this year. On a virtual 360-degree theme tour, the traditional manufacturer from Rüsselsheim is showing selected exhibits from its rich factory collection.

160 years Opel
On the 360-degree tour, there are noisy, interesting Opel models all around.

The virtual journey through 160 years of Opel history can be experienced online as part of a 360-degree theme tour. The journey takes you around the clock to special exhibits in the factory collection, which includes 600 historic vehicles and studies as well as 300 other exhibits ranging from Opel sewing machines to aircraft engines.

Historically valuable exhibits
Adam Opel's "wandering years" are discussed as well as historically valuable exhibits in the form of the quintuplet, a five-seater bicycle on which the five sons of the company founder had themselves photographed for publicity purposes at the end of the 19th century.

From the start, interested visitors can then continue on various paths through the historic halls. Along the way, they will encounter such remarkable vehicles as the Opel Elektro GT.

Also on display for the first time in this virtual tour is the pioneer among Opel automobiles: the patent motor car System Lutzmann from 1899, which marked the beginning of car production in Rüsselsheim.

160 Years of Opel Tour is available in two languages
Further information on each exhibit is available at the click of a mouse. The bilingual 160-Year Opel Tour complements the Opel Classic online tours launched last year with the titles Alternative Drives, Rally Racing, Roaring Twenties and Mobility for Millions.
