Mille Miglia: Victories on points for Alfa
CLEAR THING Exactly 430 historic vehicles - all of them rolling legends of automotive history - once again transformed Brescia in northern Italy into an open-air museum at the Mille Miglia in 2019. Over 1000 miles (around 1800 kilometers), the route runs through some of Italy's most beautiful countryside. Shortly after the start, the Mille Miglia touches Lake Garda. [...]
Over 1000 miles (about 1800 kilometers), the route runs through some of Italy's most beautiful countryside. Shortly after the start, the Mille Miglia passes Lake Garda. Via the two Unesco World Heritage cities of Mantua and Ferrara, the route leads to the Adriatic coast, where the first stage ends in the middle of the night at Cervia/Milano Marittima.
On day two, the peloton thunders into the eternal city of Rome to reach Bologna on the third day of racing over the legendary Appenine passes of Futa and Raticosa until, after four days, the finish line is crossed in Brescia.
Blessing of the Italian authorities
Once again this year, cheering tifosi cheered on the crews of the gems, while the field of riders roared through closed towns at more than 100 km/h and ignored red lights here and there - all with the four-day blessing of the Italian authorities. To ensure that no one came to any harm, the Polizia Stradale drove escorts at dangerous points, regulated traffic at some intersections and traffic circles, which were driven through on the left and right, or closed off entire streets, where the sidewalk sometimes had to be used for overtaking.
Victory with Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport
From the host country's point of view, the effort had been particularly worthwhile this year: after 1794 kilometers and 102 timings, where precision to the hundredth of a second was crucial, Giovanni Moceri and co-driver Daniele Bonetti won in the Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport.
The 1928 vehicle comes from the FCA Heritage collection and is normally housed in the Alfa Romeo factory museum in Arese near Milan. And right behind them, another Italian duo, Andrea Vesco and Andrea Guerini in the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport, built in 1929, landed in second place.
