Jaguar: A classic car only on the outside
OLD ALL NEW The classic car specialist Thornley Kelham has relaunched a Jaguar classic. The XK European conceals modern technology and the familiar 3.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine under its lightweight body.
Thornley Kelham has unveiled a new product from its European range, the Jaguar XK. As with the Lancia Aurelia Outlaw, the British specialist company has worked with McLaren P1 designer Paul Howse and other partners to build a completely new model from a classic car. Wheel suspensions, steering, brakes, but also the injection system for the engine were newly developed and tuned in-house.
More aerodynamic and elegant
Chief designer Howse also paid close attention to preserving the aerodynamics of the original body. The roofline was lowered slightly and the wheel arches widened to achieve even more elegant proportions. The rear section was tapered to achieve even more teardrop shape.
Naturally, the interior has also been extensively renewed, but without too much of a departure from the original design. The windows in the new one are now electrically operated, and air conditioning and power steering are also present to provide contemporary comfort.
5000 working hours for the conversion
The new edition of the legendary in-line six-cylinder engine with 3.8 liters displacement has been upgraded from the original 160 to 220 hp to 300 or 340 hp. The engine is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission.
A total of around 5,000 hours have been invested in the conversion work by the restoration specialists at Thornley Kelham. The model is to be produced in a small series - at prices starting at 550,000 pounds, which corresponds to around 670,000 Swiss francs.
