The focus is on the two Classic Endurance Racing (CER) fields of racing cars whose originals or types once competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Le Mans Classic is therefore the absolute highlight for fans and drivers in each of the even-numbered years (July 8 to 10, 2016). With the Jarama Classic, the season kicked off in Spain for the first time. Nine Grands Prix were held on the circuit outside Madrid from 1968 to 1981. In CER2 (GT 1966 to 1974 and sports cars 1966 to 1971), Philipp Brühwiler qualified for the first row of the grid in his Chevron B19, but experienced technical problems in the race and fell far behind. With a successful overtaking maneuver on the last lap, Toni Seiler took fourth place in his Lola T70 MkIII. The unique Ford 3L of Bernard Thuner and Claude Nahum from Geneva finished in seventh place.

Swiss one-two after pole setter's retirement
In CER2 (GT 1975 to 1981 and sports cars 1972 to 1981), there was a Swiss double victory by Yves Scemama in the TOJ SC04 and Dominique Guenat in the Lola T286 after the pole setter from England dropped out. As overall runner-up in the Heritage Touring Cup for Group 2 touring cars of the 1970s, Scemama in his 1971 Ford Capri RS2600 had to concede defeat only to the Briton Steve Dance in the one-year-younger type. In the first race of the legendary Group C, Dominique Guenat made a good debut in third place with his new 1993 Peugeot 905B, the winning model at Le Mans at the time.
