Bugatti: Standing out in black and yellow
TIMELESS COMBINATION Although Bugatti's motorsport heritage is most associated with French Racing Blue, many of the most elegant models also wore Ettore Bugatti's favorite color combination of black and yellow.
For Bugatti connoisseurs, a super sports car painted black and yellow embodies more than just the famous livery: it is also a tribute to the founder himself. For Ettore Bugatti had many of his personal vehicles painted in the eye-catching combination.
Colors have tradition with customers
Even the beams of the historic oak gate at Ettore Bugatti's house in Molsheim were painted in the colors black and yellow. At the beginning of his career as an automobile developer and producer, Bugatti painted most of his private vehicles in black.
The Type 41 Royale with black and yellow paintwork became particularly famous. Now many customers are also discovering this color combination for themselves and are choosing a black and yellow paint job for their cars.
With the Bugatti Type 55, a motorsport-inspired car with a 2.3-liter inline eight cylinder, Jean Bugatti designed a roadster that quickly became highly desirable. It, too, wore the timeless color combination of black and yellow.
First Chiron in striking combination
Bugatti does not forget this color combination even in the modern era of the company. In 2014, Bugatti introduced the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse 1-of-1 - a roadster in black with a contrasting yellow accent, yellow details on the wheels and EB logos, and a complementary interior.
Bugatti also delivered the first Chiron produced to North America in the striking color combination with yellow and black painted carbon. With the introduction of the Chiron Pur Sport in 2020, Bugatti reinvented the black and yellow combination once again for a one-off with a luminous Jaune Molsheim yellow. It is a special hue and a tribute to Ettore Bugatti's original yellow.
Two Royales in the Smurf collection
Today, numerous black and yellow Bugatti automobiles can be found in the Schlumpf Collection, the largest Bugatti collection in the world, which is housed in the Musée National de l'Automobile in Mulhouse in the heart of Alsace. Included are some 135 Bugatti models, including two of only six Type 41 Royale ever built.
