Auction: 72 000 francs for Elvis Cadillac
OLDTIME GALLERY The large hall was as always full, the mood good. It was curious to see how the 96 vehicles registered for the autumn auction in Toffen, including five motorcycles and a tractor, would perform. The total value of the vehicles was estimated at around 3.6 million francs. So per lot was expected about 36 000. That [...]
According to estimates, the total value of the vehicles was around 3.6 million francs. Around 36,000 were therefore expected per lot. The fact that around a quarter were offered without a minimum price added to the excitement. With 46 percent of lots sold outright and a further 29 percent knocked down under reserve, the auction performed very well. On average, 75 percent of the median estimate was bid, which is also a good figure.
Expensive cars were sold under reserve
However, the already secured turnover of around 1.1 million francs was still relatively far away from the expectations of the estimated values (3.6 million francs), which was certainly due, among other things, to the fact that some expensive cars could not be sold. However, it can be assumed that of the 28 cars that were only knocked down with reservations, some can still be sold after the auction, which will certainly improve the result.
Americans performed better in comparison
A total of 22 American vehicles (including a Harley-Davidson) figured on the lot list, certainly an above-average proportion. The average age of the US cars was 55 years. The brand spectrum ranged from Cadillac to Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge and Ford to Mercury, Nash, Oldsmobile, Plymouth and Pontiac to Studebaker. Most U.S. vehicles were priced in the mid-five-figure range. Americans fared much better compared to the overall offering, with 59 percent sold without reserve, another 23 percent knocked down with reserve, and only 18 percent remaining unsold.
