Sales of motorcycles increased particularly strongly in May.

This reduced the previous overall decline from January to the end of May 2020 from 21.6% to 10.8% (18,944 compared to 21,247 units in 2019).

Good results for motorcycles
The motorcycle sector saw particularly strong growth. With 4215 newly registered vehicles in May alone, the result for the same month last year (3466 units) was exceeded by 21.6%.

At 12,384 units in 2020 compared to 13,529 units in 2019, the overall decline in 2020 is now 8.5%.

Restraint with the scooters
The increase in scooters was slightly less pronounced. In May 2020, 2197 scooters were newly registered, 13.9% more than in May 2019 with 1929 vehicles.

The decline from January to the end of May is now 17.1%, with 6069 scooters sold compared to 7322 in 2019. In the previous month of April, the drop was still 21.6%.

Hoping for an upward trend
The importers represented in the motosuisse industry association hope that the upward trend will continue in June and July and that the losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic can be largely offset over the rest of the year.
