ZüriRing Motodrom: Tom offers sport and fun 🎥
WHERE YOU MEET Have you ever wished you could erect a monument to your idols at some point? Thomas "Tom" Mächler from Zurich has done just that. And in a most noble manner. Let us surprise you.
In a separée, racers can race on various slopes with a Stage3 Pro professional simulator.
On-site appointment at the ZüriRing. This is (unfortunately) not a circuit in the largest city in Switzerland, but a location in the agglomeration of the secret capital of Switzerland. Dietikon, to be precise.
Tom Mächler has the headquarters of his company here, IMAG J. Mächler AG. The entrepreneur is the third generation to run the car battery business that his grandfather founded in 1923 in Zurich's Seefeld district.
Admiration and respect for racers
Here on the upper floor of the office building, where meeting rooms, individual offices and the kitchen used to be, grandson Tom Mächler has made a boyhood dream come true.
Tom Mächler: "My great admiration and respect goes to Rosemeyer, Caracciola, Nuvolari, von Brauchitsch, Lang and Co. All racing drivers of the pre-war years who drove over 300 km/h on tires as narrow as biker tires. Many young drivers no longer know these pioneers."
Two and a half years ago, Tom Mächler was at an event with sim racing simulators and observed how much fun people have with racing and fighting. A plan matured in him: to bring together everything that fascinates him about racing.
And so a state-of-the-art lounge with eight professional SimRacing simulators from RacingFuel Academy in Horgen was created, garnished with an extraordinary collection of original old enamel signs with advertisements from brands that sponsored Formula 1. The whole setup is a tribute to F1 from 1939 to about 2000.
Tributes to the iconic world champions
In addition, there is a meeting room, incredibly beautifully edited photos on the walls, a stylish smoking lounge, a cozy terrace, elegant high tables and, last but not least, a separate area with a Stage3 Pro professional simulator. GT professionals regularly come to dry practice on it. A lot of wood. Tom Mächler is one of those all-or-nothing types - what he does, he does right.
Tom Mächler has created a lounge that tells story(s), which has become a world of experience and a tribute to the iconic world champions of formula racing until 2000.
Tom Mächler: "The fact that I was able to fulfill this dream for myself and all racing fans and help keep the memory of all these great warhorses alive, that's the nicest thing about this place."
You can book the ZüriRing as an individual, but it is certainly more fun in a group.
Metal walls with pithy sayings
The ZüriRing Simulation Motodrom, as the location is called in full, breathes racing fuel from every corner, every detail. Metal walls are engraved with pithy sayings from such unforgettable warhorses as James Hunt ("Sex is a high performance thing") or Bernd Rosemeyer ("Live at full speed"), and an armada of 1:8 and 1:18 models adorn showcase after showcase.
There is even a pit stand from which the simulators are managed. Participants can compare the lap times from qualifying, follow the race on various monitors and even in a replay.
