Even before buying basic equipment for camping vacations, you should pay attention to light additional equipment of the motorhome and light furniture. Because with each special request increases the unladen weight of the vehicle.

If road safety is at risk, the police can even order the motorhome to be unloaded. From 25 percent overload, a fine of 140 euros is due in Germany for a motor home up to 3.5 tons, and from 30 percent even 235 euros. In other European countries, the penalties are significantly higher than in Germany.

Fines up to 5000 euros for overloading in Austria
In Austria, for example, campers can pay a flat rate of up to 5,000 euros for overloading. In Italy, the permissible total weight of the vehicle may not be exceeded by more than five percent. Violations are punishable by a fine of up to 1697 euros. In Spain, exceeding the gross vehicle weight by 25 percent for vehicles with a permissible weight of up to ten tons can result in a fine of up to 2000 euros.
