Washing facilities
The car washes can be used again just in time for spring car cleaning.

Originally, the Federal Council granted operating licenses to unmanned car washes as of April 27 as part of the relaxation of measures to control coronavirus.

Letter to the Federal Council
Served car washes and gantries would have been allowed to open no earlier than May 11, as would retail spaces in the auto trade.

The Auto Gewerbe Verband Schweiz (AGVS) then wrote to the Federal Council asking it to return to this decision. A distinction between attended and unattended car washes is not comprehensible and hardly practicable.

No contact with the staff
The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) has now informed the AGVS that all carwashes will be allowed to reopen on April 27. Literally, it says: "All types of carwashes may be operated where customers either remain seated in the vehicle or at least have no direct contact with the staff."

Showrooms closed further
The situation with showrooms, on the other hand, remains unsatisfactory. Here, too, Swiss garage owners are calling for a more rapid relaxation. With the de facto halt to vehicle sales, the Swiss automotive industry is suffering considerable economic losses.
