Walther Wuttke: "Alternative is feasible!"
Hydrogen is the future of mobility without CO2. So far, however, this future in Germany has taken place only in fine-sounding announcements. On the road, however, there is still little happening. Switzerland is showing its neighbor to the north that hydrogen propulsion has already arrived in the present and is proving itself in everyday use. Government council drives with [...]
Switzerland is showing its neighbor to the north that hydrogen propulsion has already arrived in the present and is proving its worth in everyday life.
Government council drives with hydrogen
The first 50 of a total of 1600 fuel-cell-powered trucks planned by 2025 are already in use - supplied by Hyundai. In addition, the Zurich police and government council are each on the road with a Hyundai Nexo powered by fuel cells.
Expansion of a service station network
The driving force behind the hydrogen offensive is the H2 Mobility Switzerland association, founded two years ago, in which competitors Coop and Migros, among others, have joined forces. In addition to the use of the environmentally friendly trucks, the expansion of a filling station network for the fuel cell vehicles is also on the agenda.
Hydrogen ecosystem for Switzerland
There are currently two hydrogen filling stations in Hunzenschwil (Aargau) and at Empa in Dübendorf. Four more stations are planned, and the network is to grow further in the coming years. The goal is to establish a hydrogen ecosystem in Switzerland.
Electrolysis plant supplies hydrogen
The question remains as to where and how the hydrogen is to be produced. Switzerland has an answer to that, too. Since the end of last year, an electrolysis plant has been producing green hydrogen.
The electricity is supplied by the Gösgen hydropower plant. The future is feasible, Mr. Neighbor. Just take a look south.
