Volvo: Updates conveniently delivered by airmail
NEXT STEP Anyone who chooses a new Volvo will benefit from the experience gained from more than one million over-the-air updates that have already been carried out in vehicles from the Swedish manufacturer.
With the latest update, customers in the US market for the time being can now control various vehicle functions by voice command via Google Assistant-enabled devices. For example, the vehicle heating can be activated via smart speaker while still sitting at the breakfast table. With over-the-air updates (OTA), Volvo is continuously making its vehicles better - even after delivery.
The remote wireless updates extend functionality without the need for a workshop visit. The updates, which have been performed more than one million times to date, are now on sale in 68 markets.
Care Key regulates maximum speed
With "Hey Google," you can use voice commands to check the current remaining range, control the charging process and activate the air conditioning. For example, if you give the command "Hey Google, heat up my car," you can get into a pleasantly temperate vehicle right at the start of the journey.
Another improvement in the course of the update is the so-called Care Key, which can be used to limit the maximum speed of the vehicle - ideal if you lend your car to novice drivers.
Improved networking and more details
Volvo is also improving connectivity in European countries such as Greece, Iceland, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia by integrating an in-vehicle SIM card with a suitable data tariff. This service has already been available in Switzerland.
The over-the-air updates, which can now be viewed with more detailed information in the Volvo Cars app, are complemented by improved connectivity.
