The interiors of future Volvo models will no longer use products from animal husbandry.

Volvo aims to use 25 percent recycled and bio-based materials in new models by 2025. As part of its climate protection plans, the company also aims for all direct suppliers, including material suppliers, to use 100 percent renewable energy by 2025.

Negative environmental impact of livestock farming
The move to a leather-free interior is also driven by concerns about the harmful effects of livestock farming and deforestation. Instead of leather, Volvo will use high-quality sustainable materials from bio-based and recycled sources in the future.

For the interior, for example, the Swedes have developed Nordico. This material consists of textiles made from recycled PET bottles, biomaterial from sustainably managed forests, and spent corks from the wine industry.

Find answers to difficult questions
Furthermore, Volvo will offer wool blends from suppliers certified for responsible sourcing. In addition, the use of residual products from animal husbandry will be reduced.

These are produced during the manufacture of plastics, rubber, lubricants and adhesives - either as part of the material itself or as a chemical during processing.

Stuart Templar, global sustainability manager at Volvo (center gallery): "It's a challenge to find products and materials that support animal welfare. It is a journey that is worth taking. If you think progressively and sustainably, you have to face difficult questions and find answers."
