Volkswagen: Wörthersee Golf comes as Skylight
PREMIERE WITHOUT SHOW For the 13th time, Volkswagen apprentices have put a "Wörthersee Golf" on wheels. The conversion is actually presented at the legendary GTI meeting on Ascension Day. Unfortunately not this year. Like the rest of the plant, Volkswagen's apprentices were affected by the temporary closures and home office arrangements. So it came to pass that a total of two [...]
Like the rest of the plant, Volkswagen's apprentices were affected by the temporary closures and home office arrangements. As a result, a total of two cohorts worked on the Golf 8 GTE.
The model bears the name Skylight. It was inspired by the light of the sky and electromobility. The apprentice painters applied stripes in Lapiz Blue and Catalina Blue to the white body. The colors are also found on the exterior of several trim strips, the illuminated door handles, the GTE logo and as accents on the 20-inch wheels.
The side skirts are from the Golf 8 R
But the VW apprentices also picked up on the theme in the interior. Particularly eye-catching illuminated piping in the seats reflects the design, as do decorative trim, seat covers and accents on the steering wheel.
When the accelerator pedal is pressed, another element catches the eye. A hologram showing the GTE lettering has been installed above the center console. This detail comes from Volkswagen Group Components and changes depending on acceleration.
In addition to the paint and color design, the team also made numerous optimizations to the body. The side sills come from the Golf 8 R, as does the rear spoiler, which the young designers affectionately call the "fritter counter.
Stainless steel tailpipes from a 3D printer
As the GTE, the plug-in hybrid variant of the GTI, a corresponding engine is of course mandatory. The Golf produces a total of 245 hp, 110 of which is electric. Of course, to stand out at a meeting, it also needs the right sound.
The custom tailpipes play their part. These were made from stainless steel by one of the trainees using a 3D printer and pick up on the traditional honeycomb design of the GTI family. If the GTE moves around quietly with its electric drive but still wants to attract attention, the appropriate acoustic support sits in the trunk. The Skylight's sound system delivers 3110 watts. Safe is safe.
Electric skateboard is part of the equipment
In addition to bass speakers and loudspeakers, there is room for another highlight in the trunk. The electric skateboard, which is part of the equipment, travels at speeds of up to 45 km/h and can be charged in the trunk. The design of the board and helmets picks up on the central elements of the Golf GTE Skylight.
