The public prosecutor's office has accused him of fraud in connection with the diesel scandal in the VW Group. The 55-year-old is said to have known about the manipulations at an early stage, but did nothing to prevent the sale of vehicles with the manipulated emissions software. Since Rupert Stadler's arrest, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Abraham ("Bram") Schot has been in temporary charge of the car manufacturer.
Amount of severance payment is still open
Rupert Stadler's contract was only extended by five years last year. A high severance payment is therefore on the table. Volkswagen did not provide any information on the amount. Stadler wants to concentrate on his defense in the coming months.
