Last year alone, 910,926 units were built. This makes the compact SUV the best-selling car of the brand and the Group. The vehicle is offered in around 80 percent of all countries in the world.
Production in four time zones
In Europe, it is the most successful SUV on the market. Worldwide, the Tiguan is one of the three most popular sport utility vehicles. Volkswagen produces its bestseller in four time zones on three continents and thus virtually around the clock.
Electrified model still 2020
On average, a Tiguan rolled off the production line every 35 seconds in 2019, the second generation of which appeared in April 2016. The series gained further importance three years ago with the Tiguan Allspace with 110 millimeters more wheelbase and up to seven seats. It currently accounts for around 55 percent of Tiguan production.
In America, Volkswagen offers the Tiguan exclusively in the long version, which is called Tiguan L in China and is also available there as a plug-in hybrid. An electrified model is planned for Europe this year.
Normal version from Wolfsburg
The standard version of the Tiguan is built at the main plant in Wolfsburg for the markets in Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania, and in Kaluga, Russia, for Russia and the neighboring Central Asian countries. The long Tiguan is produced in Shanghai and in Puebla, Mexico, for all other countries.
