Environment: Good values for natural gas vans
The VCS's 2017 environmental list of vans shows that new vans emit less CO2 thanks to the EU's CO2 fleet target. However, diesel vans clearly cause more nitrogen oxides than permitted. As a result of the diesel scandal, the rating system was therefore adjusted. Gas-powered vans perform best from an ecological point of view. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of delivery trucks have decreased significantly. [...]

Fuel consumption and CO2-emissions for vans have decreased significantly. This can be explained, among other things, by the effect of the EU fleet target for light commercial vehicles. From 2017, the fleet average for newly sold vehicles must not exceed 175 g/km CO2 per kilometer; from 2020, a target value of 147 g/km CO2. Although these fleet targets do not yet apply to Switzerland, Swiss buyers are benefiting from the fact that manufacturers are increasingly focusing on more efficient engines.
So far only a small selection of vans with electric drive
In the categories of vehicles that achieve the highest rating of five stars in the van environmental list, there are mainly models with gas engines. They are the Fiat models Panda Van 0.9, Fiorino 1.4, Doblò Cargo 1.4, as well as VW Caddy 1.4, Opel Combo 1.4 and Piaggio Porter 1.3. Five stars are also achieved by the gasoline-powered Ford Transit Courier 1.0 SCTi. The range of environmentally friendly electric delivery vans is currently still modest. Citroën, Peugeot, Renault, Nissan, Iveco and Piaggio offer a small selection of electric delivery vans. The delivery van environmental list is the only environmental rating of its kind in Switzerland and takes into account the impact on climate, health and the environment. Here, the emission of the climate gas carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most important evaluation criterion.
