At the "Golden Steering Wheel" awards, Elon Musk revealed details about his car factory.
However, the state government considers the schedule ambitious.
Minister of Economics Jörg Steinbach (SPD): "I honestly don't see any risks at all in the absolute implementation. The key word is timeline, whether the timeline that Tesla will undertake itself will really carry one hundred percent."
Industrial area near the highway
Tesla CEO Elon Musk had surprisingly announced the project. The planned factory is to be built in Grünheide on an industrial site near highway 10. It is estimated that more than 3,000 jobs will be created there in the first stage of expansion. Tesla plans to start construction work in the first quarter of 2020, with production starting as early as 2021.
Jörg Steinbach: "I'm quite happy that we don't have overall responsibility here, but that Tesla is also the architect of its own fortune. You have to submit the documents in such a complete and high-quality manner that they can be reviewed as quickly as possible.
Approval of the aid
It will probably be some time before the EU subsidies planned by Brandenburg are approved.
Jörg Steinbach: "According to usual procedures, we assume one and a half to two years. This is not money we waved and that influenced the decision."
Attractive business location
Gundolf Schülke, Chief Executive Officer of the Frankfurt (Oder) Chamber of Industry and Commerce: "East Brandenburg is an attractive business location that does not have to hide in international comparison. A company with so much innovative and high added value attracts similar ventures."
Gundolf Schülke expects specialists to come from the region, but also from other parts of Germany as well as from nearby Poland: "In addition, Tesla needs service providers in areas such as maintenance, security, heating and sanitation, but also catering."
