Automotive professions have a future. Hardly any other basic vocational training is as versatile as one in the automotive industry. Few offer such diverse career opportunities. The tasks awaiting the candidates at the preliminary rounds of the Swiss Professional Championships were also varied and challenging.

Internet research under time pressure as a task
The young automotive mechatronics engineers put their skills and abilities in the areas of mechanics, electrics, electronics and IT to the test at three practical stations. There were also two theoretical and oral tests. In an interview, a panel of experts investigated the personality, motivation and will to perform at their best. There was also an internet search under time pressure. Olivier Maeder, Head of Training at the Swiss Garage Association: "We had a selection of top mechatronics engineers at the start in Bern."

15 qualifiers come from German-speaking Switzerland
In just over two months, the 22 qualifiers will continue on to SwissSkills in Bern from September 12 to 16. The original plan was to send 20 participants to the Swiss Skills Championships. Olivier Maeder: "But as there were three mechatronics engineers in 20th place with exactly the same number of points, we spontaneously decided to increase the number." 15 of the qualifiers come from German-speaking Switzerland, seven from French-speaking Switzerland.
