For one female automotive mechatronics technician and 30 male mechatronics technicians, things will get serious from September 10 to 12, 2020: they will be competing against the best in their field at the "SwissSkills Championships 2020". These will take place instead of the postponed "SwissSkills".
This gives young professionals the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and show off their expertise, despite the Corona crisis.
Ticket for "WorldSkills 2021" Shanghai
The competition in the Mobilcity in Bern starts on Thursday with a 31-strong field of candidates and four positions. Twelve of these candidates will qualify for the semi-finals on Friday. There they will compete at six stations.
The best six semi-finalists will move on to Saturday's final, where they will compete for the medals at three stations. For the apprentices, it's not just about the title - the medal winners also qualify for the EuroCup. This gives them the chance to secure a ticket to the "WorldSkills 2021" in Shanghai.
Candidates from all language regions
A total of 31 automotive mechatronics technicians - including one woman - will compete in the "SwissSkills Championships 2020". Apart from Ticino, all language regions are represented.
Twelve candidates have completed their training in commercial vehicles, while 19 specialize in passenger cars. They are all between 19 and 21 years old.
Preparation for international event
Markus Schwab, responsible for the competition: "For the first time, the final will be held as a parallel competition. This should also increase the pressure on the candidates when they see from the corner of their eye how far their competitors are already. This creates a situation like it will be at the international competitions".
In addition, their handling of the pressure is included in the assessment. The young people are tested in the topics of their training, for example engine management, brakes or electrics. The aim is to offer as wide a spectrum as possible.
Media accompaniment of the competitions
For once, the competitions cannot be followed live on site. The "Swiss-Skills Championships 2020" will be accompanied by media, for example on the SwissSkills channels.
The award ceremony will also be broadcast on AGVS channels on Facebook and Instagram transferred.
