Super driving instructor: Francesco Signorelli gives important tips
ADVICE The choice of the best driving instructor is based on thousands of assessments by learner drivers and the examination statistics of the Road Traffic Office. This year, Francesco Signorelli received the most points.
Every year, around 200,000 learner drivers in Switzerland try to finally get their driving license and get rid of the blue and white L on their car. However, the route there is not without its pitfalls, and many need a second attempt at the test. Whether it's the theory test, where around a quarter fail, or the practical test, where around a third don't pass at the first attempt. With the tips from Francesco Signorelli from the canton of Schwyz, you can take a more relaxed approach to the exams.
Often struggle with foresight
Francesco Signorelli: "In my experience, learner drivers have the most difficulty in the practical test with foresight, i.e. planning the next situation that will occur. If the foresight is inadequate, the driver gets into a stressful situation and vehicle operation suffers as a result. That's why, when preparing for the test, I try to drive a lot with the student according to the signs, or I give him a slightly more distant destination where he then has to organize himself."
Nervousness or exam nerves
Another issue that can lead to problems during the exam is nervousness or test anxiety.
Francesco Signorelli: "I think a little nervousness is part of an exam and keeps the tension high. Exam nerves, on the other hand, are more common when you know that you are not well prepared for the exam. That's why I always work towards optimal exam preparation, because then exam nerves are practically no longer an issue. In my experience, it is also particularly helpful to carry out an exam simulation with your own or, even better, another driving instructor before the practical exam."
Ride is evaluated at the end
As a tip for his protégés, Signorelli puts it like this: "Be yourself during the test and don't pretend. Take note of mistakes that happen during the test, but then hide them again and look ahead. Don't hang your head when you make mistakes, because the whole test drive is assessed at the end."
