new rules
Drivers on the highway must form a rescue lane in the event of traffic jams or congestion.

In future, drivers on the highway will have to form a rescue lane in the middle of the roadway without being asked in the event of gridlock or traffic jams.

In addition, the zipper principle is applied when two lanes are merged on the highway. Motorists must then allow their vehicles to merge at the end of the lane being merged to prevent premature lane changes and tailbacks.

Passing on the right is now permitted
Finally, it is also permitted to pass cars in the left-hand lane in traffic jams, slow-moving traffic or in the event of an accident. However, overtaking on the right and turning right again remains prohibited.

Caravan combinations are now permitted to travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h. Of course, the trailer must be equipped with tires approved for this speed.

From January 2021, alcoholic drinks may also be sold again at freeway service stations.

Parking spaces for electric vehicles only
Bicycles and motorcycles are now allowed to turn right at a red light in urban traffic, provided it is marked accordingly.

In future, children up to the age of twelve will be allowed to ride on the right-hand side of the sidewalk if there is no cycle lane on their route. However, they must give way to pedestrians.

When using the parking assistance systems, drivers may let go of the steering wheel or even get out of the car if the parking assistance system allows it. However, they must be ready to intervene at any time.

Green markings and the new "charging station" symbol indicate that the corresponding parking spaces may only be used by electric vehicles.

Driving lessons are now possible from the age of 17
The learner's license for passenger cars - categories B and BE - can be requested from the age of 17. New drivers can register for the test from their 18th birthday provided that they have been driving under supervision for one year.
