The inspiration for building the Slavia open-top car for the 2020 Trainee Car Project was the Škoda 1100 OHC two-seater sports prototype. Only two examples of this racing car, which was presented in 1957, still exist today.

Milestone in motorsport history
The car, of which there are Spider and Coupé variants, is a milestone in the brand's 119-year motorsport history. It was originally designed for endurance racing, built on a lightweight trellis frame welded from thin-walled tubes, and weighed just 550 kilograms with its aerodynamic body made of glass-fiber-reinforced plastic.

The 92 hp delivered by the 1.1-liter four-cylinder engine was enough for quite respectable performance. Depending on the axle ratio, top speeds of 190 to 200 km/h were possible.

World champion tests the new trainee car
Shortly after the presentation of the 2020 Apprentice Car, the fastest Škoda employee, rally works driver and 2018 WRC2 world champion Jan Kopecký, took a close look at the new building.

He tested the seventh apprentice car together with his new co-driver Jan Hloušek at the race track in Bělá pod Bezdězem. There, in the Bohemian forests at the Motorland racing, rallycross and test track, the Czech manufacturer's rally cars have been getting their finishing touches for around 30 years.

On the same occasion, the professional drivers also did some laps with the over 60-year-old Škoda 1100 OHC sports prototype.

Dynamic design and attention to detail
The Czech Škoda works driver was enthusiastic.

Jan Kopecký : "The trainees have once again done a great job and present an impressive trainee car in the form of the Slavia. It inspires with dynamic lines and shows great attention to detail. The build quality is also excellent for a vehicle that was created purely by hand."
