According to media speculation, however, Bernhard Maier's successor has already been settled.

The 60-year-old manager's contract was not renewed after just under five years. During his tenure, the trained automotive mechanic had driven forward the realignment as part of the 2025+ strategy around electromobility, digitalization and connectivity, as well as a broad product offensive.

Increase to 1.3 million vehicles
Under his leadership, the Kodiaq, Karoq, Kamiq and Scala models, which are also successful in Switzerland, were developed. The Enyaq, which will be the brand's first all-electric vehicle, is ready for series production.

Bernhard Maier was able to increase sales to around 1.3 million vehicles per year and achieve good sales and results.

Troubled times at Group headquarters
The VW Group in Wolfsburg is currently seething. In addition to Bernhard Maier, the head of the truck division, Andreas Rentschler, has already had to resign.

Herbert Diess has been relieved of brand responsibility for Volkswagen, partly because of the ongoing problems surrounding the VW ID.3. Ralf Brandstätter has been appointed as his successor here.
