In this short video, Carlos Arcos gives a brief insight into his work. Model makers are true artists in the automotive industry. However, they practice a profession that is unknown to most people.
Their most important tools are their hands, which they use to bring the vehicle designers' sketches to life as full-size clay sculptures. Carlos Arcos is responsible for designing the models at Seat and explains his work to us.
The most important thing is the sound
Despite the advances that have been made in virtual reality or with the introduction of 4K glasses, the model created from a special industrial clay is still an essential part of the design process.
Carlos Arcos has been modeling vehicles for almost 20 years. He studied industrial design and specialized in modeling prototypes. The last model to be hand modeled by Arcos and his team was the new Seat Tarraco. It took the team two months of work and 5000 kilos of clay.
