In addition to Seat advertising space at the WRC circuits, the cooperation agreement provides for the Seat Leon Cupra to be used as a safety car for the first time in a global championship. In this capacity, the model will be on track during the warm-up lap of each race in all categories. The season kicked off on February 24 at the Philips Island Circuit in Australia. The winner of the first race in the "Superbike" category was Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki), who has already been world champion the last two years. Swiss rider Randy Krummenacher (Kawasaki) finished 14th (out of 21). Robin Mulhauser (Honda) finished 21st (of 23) in the "Supersport" category.
The championship season takes place on three continents with over 13 races, in twelve different countries.
