Children should wear bright, reflective clothing so they are easily visible to others.

Parents, on the whole, believe that the risk of accidents is increasing year by year. Looking deeper into the reasons for this fear, we find that the first thing parents mention is the speed of vehicles near the school and the number of cars on the road.

Long distances are a problem
According to the survey, more and more parents are bringing their children to school by car to avoid this danger - especially in French-speaking Switzerland. They see the car as a guarantee of safety as well as an opportunity to save time.
The often long distance between home and school is another reason. In addition, parents believe that their children are insufficiently educated in the area of road safety.

Security
Parents should walk the route to school with their children several times and point out dangers.

... and here is the advice of the experts
Be sure to follow and practice these tips for your child to walk to school.

Council 1 Before entering a pedestrian lane, stop at the edge of the sidewalk, look to both sides, and watch traffic carefully.
Council 2 Before crossing the road, make sure that the wheels of the vehicles are completely stationary ("wheel stands - child walks").
Council 3 Do not run across the street, but walk normally.
Council 4 Choose the safest route, not the shortest.
Council 5 Walk the route to school several times during the days leading up to the start of school to make the child aware of potential dangers.
Council 6 On the streets without sidewalks, preferably walk on the left side of the road (facing the traffic).
Council 7 Always set a good example, because children observe adults and imitate them.
