Every Scania AXL is controlled and monitored by an intelligent control center.

As various industries strive to streamline transportation tasks and make them more sustainable, self-driving vehicles are increasingly being considered. Mines and large enclosed construction sites are examples of environments that are suitable for self-driving projects as they are easily controllable.

A new intelligent front module replaces the traditional cab in the Scania AXL.

Henrik Henriksson, President and CEO of Scania: "With the Scania AXL Concept Truck, we are taking an important step towards the intelligent transportation systems of the future, in which self-driving vehicles will naturally play a role. We continue to develop and test concepts to show what we can achieve with the technology available today."

In mines, autonomous operation is facilitated by a Scania AXL logistics system.

Combination with combustion engine
For autonomous vehicles, software is in many ways more important than hardware. The Scania AXL is controlled and monitored by an intelligent control center. In mines, for example, autonomous operation is facilitated by a logistics system that tells the vehicle how to behave. The combustion engine that powers the concept vehicle is an example of how traditional and new technologies are combined. It runs sustainably on renewable biofuel.

A front module replaces the cab
The robust and powerful features and design of the Scania AXL adapt to the tougher environments of mines and large construction sites. A new intelligent front module replaces the traditional cab, but even without the cab, the concept is easily recognizable as a Scania.
