For once, the winner of this unusual car rally will not be the fastest team, but the one that produces the least CO2 on the route. Because those who drive a natural gas/biogas-powered vehicle are particularly climate-friendly on the road. A gas-powered car that runs on 20 percent biogas in its fuel produces up to 40 percent less CO2 and other greenhouse gases than a gasoline-powered car.

Important are the ability to work in a team and fitness
"The Clean Rally" was launched to address the information deficit on the subject of natural gas/biogas as a fuel with an entertaining and exciting action. In the qualification, the candidates had to prove their skills in the categories of car climbing, mini-race, jury , team and fitness. Especially the last mentioned qualities will play a decisive role at the rallye

Teams represent their region of origin
These teams will start: Zurich/Eastern Switzerland with Thierry Grünberger (Zurich) and Patrick Ritch (Kloten), Basel/Mittelland with Cyriak Heierli (Dornach) and Philipp Neth (Arlesheim), Romandie with Benoît Dumas and Serena Perrone (both from L'Isle VD), Ticino with Dario Bassi (Breganzona) and Graziano Marioni (Lopagno), and Central Switzerland with Benjamin Soskin (Zug) and Gina Müller (Zug). A total of 230 Swiss men and women have applied.

Points are awarded for consumption and challenges
All teams want to show where the cleanest drivers in Switzerland come from. To do so, they will drive natural gas/biogas-powered Seat Leon TGI cars through Switzerland to Italy and back within three days. The pilots will compete in challenges, experience adventures, overcome passes and discover unforgettable landscapes. The winning team of the rally will not only reap fame and glory, but will also go home with two new Seat Leon TGI. 20 Minuten will accompany the teams and report daily online. The winners will be honored on September 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. in front of the main entrance of Messe Basel on the occasion of Auto Basel.
