Rinspeed: After Snap comes the MicroSNAP

ONE STEP FURTHER At CES 2018, Rinspeed presented the Snap, a mobility system in which the chassis and superstructure can go their own way. Now the MicroSNAP is buzzing to the start. "Think micro, yet mighty!" is now the Rinspeed motto at CES 2019. Company boss Frank M. Rinderknecht has turned the Snap into the microSNAP on the mass [...]

Because online trade is booming and now also includes the fresh food sector, Frank M. Rinderknecht believes in small autonomous vehicles for fast delivery traffic.

For visionary Rinspeed, the time of large delivery trucks serving customers one after the other throughout the day like pearls on a string is over. His alternative is called MicroSNAP.

"Think micro, yet mighty!" is now the Rinspeed motto at CES 2019. Company boss Frank M. Rinderknecht has shrunk the Snap to microSNAP to the mass of a Renault Twizy and is showing for the first time a functional robot station that joins and separates chassis and bodies - and charges them at the same time. The Zumik-based automaker: "Simple, efficient and forward-looking."

Skateboards and pods are only short-term partners
Whether Snap or MicroSNAP, the basic idea remains. While the bodies last as long as a car does today, the chassis contains all the components that are susceptible to wear and aging, such as the IT-relevant technology for automated driving. Skateboards (chassis) and pods (bodies) are only short-term partners. Thus, differently usable superstructures use the skateboards that are currently available. After a few years, these are recycled because the limit of their service life has been reached.
The system will be unveiled again at CES (January 8-12, 2019) in Las Vegas and later at the Geneva International Motor Show (March 7-17, 2019 at Palexpo Geneva).
