STARK Good news from Renault and Dacia after a tough year for the auto industry: the brands record a higher market share, record sales of electric vehicles, and it falls short of Swiss CO2 targets. For the first time, Renault can register an all-electric model as bestseller of the year with the Zoe. Sales of the Captur and Mégane E-Tech plug-in hybrid models and the Clio E-Tech Hybrid also got off to a successful start. The Renault Kangoo Z.E. in turn scored points in 2020 as the best-selling electric van.
This strong offering of electric and hybrid vehicles played a key role in ensuring that Renault and Dacia not only met but significantly undercut the 2020 CO2 targets for Switzerland (95 g/km for passenger cars, 147 g/km for light commercial vehicles).
More affordable electric vehicles coming in 2021
Claude Gregorini, Country Operations Director Renault Suisse SA: "The fact that we will be able to register an electric vehicle as a Renault bestseller for the first time in 2020 is seen as a strong start to the next era. Renault and Dacia are well prepared for this. More than that, we will also bring new, affordable electric vehicles in 2021, giving all interested customers access to this technology - be it with the Renault Twingo Electric or the Dacia Spring, to name just two examples."
City runabout Zoe in the past absolute bestseller
In a sharply declining market (-24.0 %), Renault Group significantly increased its market share in Switzerland for passenger cars. 21,300 new vehicles represent a new market share of 7.8 % (+0.8 % compared to 2019).
The market share for passenger cars increased by 0.9 % to 4.7 % in 2020. In figures, this is 11,072 passenger cars (-5.5 % out of a total market of -24.0 %).
The clear bestseller is called Renault Zoe, which leads the Swiss B-segment with a sales record of 2887 vehicles (+60.5 % compared to record year 2019). In 2nd place for Renault is the Captur with 2157 enrollments. The Clio sold 2000 units last year.
Expansion of the range of electric and hybrid models
The Captur and the Arkana City SUV come with the E-Tech drive as a full hybrid. The production model of the all-electric compact crossover, which Renault presented as the Mégane E-Vision concept (AutoSprintCH reported), will follow at the end of 2021.
With the Sandero and Sandero Stepway, models are coming onto the market that set new standards for quality, equipment and reliability at top prices. Similarly, the Dacia Spring carries these values into the electric vehicle market.
