Renault: The Master is a load master

PLACE SATT The Trafic and Master vans have been given an update by Renault. The TÖFF editorial team tested the large Master panel van as part of a photo production with four motorcycles. The Master, a 3.5-ton L3H2 panel van, met these requirements exactly. The available space was 13 cubic meters, and with an unladen weight of 2358 kilograms, the load capacity of 1140 kilograms was immense.

Loading an easy exercise
Thanks to numerous eyelets, which - and this is essential for this purpose - were attached to the floor and not to the side struts, all four mid-range naked bikes (each weighing around 200 to 220 kilograms), which were loaded using a folding ramp, could be securely lashed down with clamping sets.

With the third and fourth bikes, maneuvering work and patience were needed to lash them neatly despite an internal width of max. 1765 millimeters and a load compartment length of around 3700 millimeters. But in the end, the exercise wasn't a piece of witchcraft.

Sufficient driving performance
In terms of ride comfort, the Master (6.22 meters long, just under 2.50 meters high and 2.47 meters wide) leaves nothing to be desired. Above all, the performance of the 2.3-liter diesel engine with twin turbo was right: A full 180 hp at 3500 rpm and a fat torque of 400 Nm at 1500 rpm caused enthusiasm even among motorcycle testers - especially in combination with the easy-shifting 6-speed transmission.

Thanks to the impeccable chassis and reliable brakes, normal speeds like with a passenger car are no problem. Only the dimensions should always be kept in mind.

Various expansion options
There is also space and storage in the driver's cab. Renault offers various expansion options depending on requirements. The extras installed in our test vehicle (from 46,581 Swiss francs) are limited to a sensible minimum with, for example, cruise control, rearview camera and rear parking aid.
