Public transport companies in Switzerland have announced that they will be increasing the frequency of their services again from Monday. This will make traveling within Switzerland easier again.
Increasing the transport offer
The risk of a new Covid-19 wave remains. The increase in traffic is therefore accompanied by preventive health measures that supplement the rules introduced in mid-March. The TCS is supporting its members in line with the measures imposed by the FOPH.
Exercise promotes health
It is recommended to cover distances on foot as often as possible - also because physical activity is good for your health.
Dr. Markus Luethi, doctor at TCS: "Keeping the circulatory system moving, i.e. strengthening it, is an important means of staying in good health. Wearing face masks is recommended if the required distance between people who do not live in the same household cannot be maintained."
Cycling without a trademark
When cycling, a distance of two meters from other cyclists must be maintained. Wearing a face mask is superfluous and is not recommended. The TCS also advises you to regularly clean the handlebars and all parts of the bike that you touch with soap to prevent any risk of infection.
Cleaning motorcycles and scooters
Like all individual means of transportation, motorcycles and scooters are also recommended for getting around during this time. They allow you to keep the necessary distance for hygiene reasons. The full-face helmet offers sufficient protection so that the face mask can be dispensed with. However, it is advisable not to wear a helmet that has not been cleaned beforehand.
Car a safe means of transportation
The car is one of the safest means of transportation. There is no need to wear a face mask and keep your distance in the car if all occupants live in the same household.
If this is not the case, face masks should be worn if the required distance cannot be maintained. The car sharing companies provide information on their websites about how they keep their vehicles clean.
Dr. Markus Luethi: "Do not switch to recirculated air while driving, as this can spread any viruses and bacteria that may be present in the interior."
The TCS also recommends checking the tire pressure and the general condition of the vehicle if it has been stationary for a long time.
Keeping your distance in public traffic
Transport companies will continue to clean the parts of the vehicles that often come into contact with users' hands. The first rows of seats behind the driver will be made inaccessible, which will reduce the capacity of the vehicles.
All companies recommend wearing a face mask if passengers cannot stay within two meters of each other.
The TCS recommends buying tickets in advance, traveling at off-peak times and using the various information channels to stay informed about hygiene measures, timetables and vehicle occupancy. Only staff on the trains are required to wear masks.
Disinfectant at the station
Rail services will also increase their frequency. For hygiene reasons, disinfectants will be provided at the entrance to the stations. The toilets at Basel SBB, Bellinzona, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Locarno, Lucerne and Zurich main stations will be freely accessible.
Wearing a mask is mandatory for train staff who come into contact with passengers. The latter are also recommended to wear a mask if the two-meter distance cannot be maintained in the queues, on the platform or in the carriages.
The carriages will be cleaned regularly and door opening will continue to be automatic wherever possible.
