Already from three persons it becomes narrow in the tested representatives of the camping beginner class.
After the Fiat Ducato was the industry leader in Switzerland for years in the entry-level models, many manufacturers now offer interesting base vehicles. Four of the most common, current representatives of the converted travel vans are the Pössl with Citroën Jumper chassis, the Malibu from Carthago with Fiat Ducato base, the Hymer Grand Canyon on the basis of a Mercedes Sprinter and the VW Transporter as T6 California.
Good ratings for all fans in the test
The coaches were tested and evaluated in terms of drive and engine, driving characteristics, fuel consumption, but also for the camping suitability of the interior, their living and travel comfort and, last but not least, their safety when braking.
The models are all basically convincing and scored either "recommendable" (Pössl and Malibu) or "highly recommendable" (Hymer and VW T6). The Pössl with Citroen chassis and the Malibu with Fiat chassis score points in the "driving characteristics" and "safety" categories.
Best price-performance ratio for Pössl
Further, the vans show contrasting features. The Pössl 600 (48,000 francs) offers the best price-performance ratio. The Hymer Grand Canyon is the most complete, but has its price. The Malibu Van 600 DB convinces with a clever interior concept and the compact VW T6 California with good workmanship and convincing driving performance.
