Great climate through maintenance

AGVS Virtually no new car rolls onto the road anymore without air conditioning for a good climate inside the vehicle, especially in summer. Today's air conditioning systems are complex technical systems that require regular professional maintenance, for example, by an AGVS garagist.

Air conditioners not only improve the comfort of driving in the summer. In addition to a good climate, they also ensure greater safety. Tests have shown that people react in the same way to heat of 35 degrees in a car as they do with 0.5 per mille of alcohol in their blood.

Air conditioners need maintenance
Markus Peter, Head of Technology & Environment at the Auto Gewerbe Verband Schweiz (AGVS): "Air conditioning systems are complex technical systems with numerous parts that wear out over time. For example, the belt that drives the air-conditioning compressor can lose tension. Or the pollen filter may become dirty. So the ventilation loses power and the cooling effect decreases." In addition, the system no longer works if lines leak and refrigerant escapes.

Control required
An initial check is necessary after three, at the latest four years after purchase. After that, regular checks every two years are recommended. If the air conditioner is running properly, it should still not always be switched on. When the outside temperature drops below 18 degrees, the air conditioner should only be switched on to dehumidify the windows, which saves fuel. When the air conditioner is on, make sure that the air jet is never aimed directly at the body, as this can cause colds. In addition, the difference between the inside and outside temperature should not be greater than five degrees, otherwise there is a risk of circulatory problems.
