Open race track: Indianapolis in Oerlikon
WHERE YOU MEET 20 years ago, historic racing cars were presented for the first time at the Open Racecourse in Oerlikon. The countdown to the next show on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, is on.
Among classic car owners and fans, the event has become a household name throughout Europe. Georg Kaufmann runs the event in cooperation with the Interessen Gemeinschaft Offene Rennbahn IGOR, his brother Jo Kaufmann and competent help from the licensed race director Karl Marti.
Georg Kaufmann: "Indianapolis Oerlikon has retained structures and has been able to position itself clearly. It is an open-air museum with around 60 historic vehicles, including up to three dozen motorcycles, some with sidecars."
Cultural event worthy of protection since 2018
On the large square in the oval, the public can view the precious vehicles up close, talk shop with the owners or simply enjoy so much old and mostly glittering technology. 5000 people flock to Oerlikon each time for the event. In 2018, the event was even included in the list of cultural events worthy of protection.
Gates and ticket offices open at 4 pm. From 5 pm the interior is open to visitors and from 6 pm the demonstrations on the track begin.
Race with heavy machinery
Bike races are also on the program, as well as the races of the standers and their pacemakers with their heavy machines. The end of the race is at 10 pm.
The admission price (from 16 years) is exceptionally 20 francs due to additional, elaborate security measures. Season tickets and free tickets remain valid. Postponement date in case of bad weather is Thursday, July 28, 2022.
