While the diesel share of new vehicle sales remains at a relatively low level, there are already signs of a (slight) recovery on the used vehicle market.

The new registration figures show that the nitrogen oxide debate had an impact on orders for new vehicles in the summer. According to the experts, this situation is likely to remain visible into the spring.

Clear trend
The trend away from diesel is particularly noticeable in the lower and upper mid-range. With the accentuated decline in figures since the end of summer, the proportion of diesel vehicles among new cars has fallen to 33.7 percent - even lower than in the aftermath of the 2015 diesel crisis, when the manipulations became public.

Relaxation with the Occasions
The situation for used cars is more relaxed: Here, the specialists at auto-i-dat ag have observed an increasing proportion of diesel vehicles since summer 2017. While it was still at 27.7 percent in August, it was 28.8 percent at the end of October. With these market figures, the second diesel reporting by auto-i-dat ag is also registering a downward trend. The report has been compiled on a quarterly basis since summer 2017.
