The new center was founded last April and is based in Pier01 of Barcelona Tech City, a European startup ecosystem.
Smart IT solutions
The aim of the new IT lab is to analyze and develop smart solutions that can be used to meet the challenges of tomorrow's mobility. The center is also intended to help position the Spanish manufacturer as a pioneer in the field of vehicle networking. To this end, it is relying on a combination of mobile technology and Big Data designed to optimize the relationship between the public, the smart city and the mobility services provided.
Software and Data
The specialists there will develop software and algorithms related to mobility services using data from vehicles, from Barcelona as a smart city and input from pedestrians. In the initial phase, their main areas of activity will include the development of predictive navigation solutions, traffic management tools and apps such as the parking finder recently presented at the "Automobile Barcelona" trade show, which detects and displays free parking spaces in the city.
Many years of experience
Nascimento studied economics at the University of London and computer science at the Florida Institute of Technology. He has over 20 years of professional experience in the technology fields of various industries. Most recently, he was the Managing Director of Technology for the cab app Hailo, where he also served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) since 2010. Previous positions include Chief Software Developer at eCourier and Team Leader Technology at UBS Investment Bank and British Airways.
