Mobility: Car sharers like electric cars

STROMER IM TREND Mobility has been testing e-mobility in Zurich for a year. Ten models of various brands are available. It turns out that electric cars are just as well utilized as conventional cars.

Electric cars are becoming increasingly popular at Mobility - especially among younger customers.

Mobility has set itself the goal of being completely electric by 2030 at the latest. To achieve this, the car-sharing provider is not only working to rapidly expand its charging network, but also to meet the needs of its customers.

A pilot project with ten e-cars has been running at Zurich station for a year.

Mobility Managing Director Roland Lötscher: "The conclusion is positive: Whereas in recent years e-vehicles were significantly less popular than cars with combustion engines, there is now no longer any difference. There is a great deal of interest in sustainable mobility and a desire to try out new things."

Young customers in particular show interest
Around two-thirds of users are less than 39 years old.

Roland Lötscher: "This is exactly what we had hoped for. To get young people excited about e-sharing. Around half of all drivers visited the Europaallee location specifically because of the e-cars - even when locations with fossil-fuel vehicles are closer."

Fast charging stations from partner Gofast
The pilot site proves that the range of e-cars is easily sufficient for car-sharing routes. The battery charge level at the start of the journey was more than 80 percent in nine out of ten cases. Only a few customers had to recharge on the way, which can be done free of charge at the fast-charging stations of Mobility partner Gofast.

However, electric drivers still see room for improvement in the information about the various e-models. The charging processes in particular can be unsettling. Mobility has now responded to this with brief instructions that are available online and in the form of written instructions in the vehicles.

180 Mobility cars are electric on the road
To get its e-charging infrastructure up and running quickly, Mobility is working with SBB. It rents EV parking spaces at train stations. It is also setting up charging stations itself.

Today, a total of 180 Mobility cars are on the road electrically; by 2023, this figure is expected to rise to 450, and by 2030, the entire fleet of more than 3,000 vehicles.
