The Japanese manufacturer, which is part of the Nissan-Renault alliance, has decided to offer rebadged models from its partner Renault in selected European markets in the future.
Sales through the existing distribution network
Starting in 2023, Mitsubishi will sell two sister models produced at Groupe Renault plants through its existing European sales network.
Dominique Senard, Chairman of the Alliance Operating Board, said, "I am delighted that Mitsubishi Motors is establishing a new model program in Europe. Our aim is to improve competitiveness and enable more effective sharing of resources that will benefit all three companies."
Common platform for upcoming vehicles
The vehicles are based on the Group's platforms but have Mitsubishi's trademark features. The newly launched Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross plug-in hybrid and the sister models developed by Renault will complement the Japanese brand's range.
No development of new models for Europe
Takao Kato, CEO Mitsubishi Motors: "Mitsubishi is looking forward to the models based on Renault platforms and to new customers. We have implemented structural reforms in Europe and maintain the decision to freeze the development of new models for the European market. The collaboration now gives us the opportunity to introduce products developed and produced in Europe."
