Registering vehicles and issuing license plates: In the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft, garage operations will in future be able to take over these tasks from the Motor Vehicle Inspection (MFK).
Data electronically to the MFK
Since the end of August, a pioneering pilot project has been running throughout Switzerland with a new e-tool developed by the MFK Basel-Stadt (BS). The user is the Asag garage in Dreispitz. The pilot business transmits the data required for redemption via the e-tool to the MFK BS, which then also checks online whether the vehicle and the owner meet all legal requirements. If this is the case, the owner receives the provisional vehicle registration card and the license plates from Asag. For this purpose, the garage stores around 40 car registration numbers safely in its safe.
Vehicle registration card in the mailbox
Two working days later, the customer finds his definitive vehicle registration card in his mailbox. At the moment, the e-tool is being expanded to include vehicle changes, which in practice occur much more frequently than new redemptions. This should be possible from 2019. Other garages will also be able to participate in the pilot project.
