Mercedes: Unimog is off-road vehicle of the year 2016
For the twelfth time in a row, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog has been voted the best off-road vehicle of the year in the "Special vehicles" category by readers of the trade magazine "Off Road". Whether in the dust-dry Gobi desert, in the tundra and taiga of Siberia or on snow-covered mountain passes in Switzerland - there is hardly a challenge that the Unimog is not up to. Thanks to the mid-engine position of the high-terrain Unimog Euro VI, the frame offset is now further back. Overall, this results in a low centre of gravity, which optimizes the driving characteristics in off-road use. Driving in extreme situations with the all-wheel drive engaged is supported by the engageable differential locks and the tire pressure regulation system. Power comes from the high-torque BlueTec 6 common-rail engine OM 934 LA, a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 5.1 liters, 230 hp and 900 Nm torque. Eight forward and six reverse gears are available, as well as an optional off-road group for off-road use in the speed range between 2.5 and 35 km/h.
