Mercedes and BMW have agreed, after review and in partnership, to focus on their respective existing development paths.
To be continued at a later date
Both companies emphasize that cooperation is still possible at a later date. This is because the two companies' fundamental approach to automated driving, for example in terms of safety and customer benefits, fits together.
The BMW Group and Mercedes-Benz AG continue to work independently on their current generations for highly automated driving. However, they were only able to hold detailed talks at expert level and discuss technology roadmaps together with suppliers after the contract was signed last year.
High expenditure for technological basis
In these discussions, both sides came to the conclusion that, in view of the high cost of a common technological basis and against the background of the overall business and economic conditions, the time was not right at present for a successful implementation of the cooperation.
