Mercedes: eCitaro G in operation in Zurich

SUSTAINABLE SHUTTLE The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G celebrated its world premiere just a few weeks ago, and now it is already electrifying Zurich. The transport company Eurobus welti-furrer AG uses the "ETH Link" to connect the ETH Zentrum and ETH Hönggerberg sites of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. Eurobus is thus the first transport company to use the fully electrically powered articulated bus in regular service.

With immediate effect, three Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G will take over regular service on this route. The 18.13-meter-long articulated buses are fully electrically powered and have a pantograph for intermediate charging.

Supply with Swiss water power

Patrick Nussbaumer, Managing Director of Eurobus welti-furrer AG: "In addition to their environmental friendliness, the new electric buses are characterized above all by their quiet ride, comfortable low-floor access and attractive interior and exterior design. ETH is thus sending a clear signal and strengthening its position as a future-oriented educational institute."

This also applies to the energy supply: The electricity used to operate the electric buses is exclusively Swiss hydroelectric power - a fixed term for environmentally friendly electricity generated from hydropower. This conserves fossil raw materials and reduces CO2 emissions.

Charging by pantograph at the stop
The electric buses are temporarily charged at the Hönggerberg stop at a charging station with 300 kW power. The charging pole is equipped with a contact hood. At it, the vehicle-fixed pantograph docks and thus starts the charging process. The eCitaro G has a battery capacity of 243 kWh.

Public WLAN and USB charging sockets
The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G articulated buses offer a total of 131 seats, divided into 38 seats and 93 standing places with two wheelchair spaces. One of the total of four doors is equipped with a wheelchair ramp. You can see more details in the gallery.

ETH commuters can also look forward to public WLAN, USB charging sockets and air conditioning for hot summer days.
