In 2020 as a whole, 184,531 new passenger cars have hit the roads so far. Compared to 2019, this represents a decrease of 67,882 new registrations.
The members of auto-schweiz have confirmed their market estimate of 240,000 new registrations by the end of the year, although this does not yet include the latest developments.
October worst month since 2005
October was the worst tenth calendar month in the Swiss auto market since 2005, with the sharp year-on-year decline also stemming from the fact that October 2019 had brought a very good result of 26,103 new registrations in a long-term comparison.
Christoph Wolnik of auto-schweiz: "If this trend continues until the end of the year, the Brnache is in for the darkest car year since the mid-1970s."
Strong share of electrified models
The market share of alternative drive systems continues to develop positively. In the year to date, their share is exactly 25 percent, with 12.1 percent accounted for by rechargeable models, i.e. purely electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids.
The "10/20" target set by auto-schweiz of a ten percent market share for these plug-in vehicles is thus as good as achieved.
Christoph Wolnik: "We are delighted with this success in our goal of further reducing the CO2 fleet average. Detailed information by brand is summarized on the auto-schweiz website."
